PICTURE BOOK THEATRE, located in Amherst, Massachusetts, brings to life books by favorite picture book authors. Founder/Director Therese Brady Donohue has designed and created puppets, props, and scenic drops for each show to realistically replicate the original illustrations that children know so well. Five puppeteers operate the show with original music written by Massachusetts composer Karen A. Tarlow. Puppeteers include Barbara Aldrich, Margaret Arsenault, Bev Boykan, Frances Caporello, and Joan Hanson. Since 2006 PBT has adapted the stories of Eric Carle and Leo Lionni including stick puppets, life size puppets and dancers from Amherst Ballet. These shows included recorded narrators Walter Carroll, Nicholas Clark, Matthew Roehrig, Onawami Jean Moss, and Jane Yolen. Starting in 2017, the Company is focusing on New England authors and illustrators premiering with two stories written and narrated by Jane Yolen and illustrated by Anne Hunter and Bruce Degen. In its new format of all large one dimensional string puppets, the Company performs Thanksgiving week-end at The Eric Carle Museum. See Schedules and Shows page for more information.
